Covid-19 Risk Assessment for Mass Gatherings

The Purpose of the Covid-19 Risk Assessment is to provide a common framework for event organizers to make risk informed decisions about Public Safety and the operations of their event.

Since there are no vaccines or treatments for COVID-19, non-pharmaceutical interventions become the most important response strategy. These are community interventions that can help reduce the impact of disease and prevent another shut-down.

I work with local governments as a ‘Local Public Health Partner.’ This arms-length relationship allows me to talk more candidly with event organizers and planners. Yet, also allows for the community leaders to help their community present a more unified approach to Covid-19 mitigations for their residents.

Using a Mass Gathering Risk Assessment Tool designed by the World Health Organization and supplemented with the State of Illinois’ Restore IL Guidance, I will conduct interviews with event organizers. During our discussions, we will review health and safety concepts, I will provide directions to find information and a Risk Value will be given.
