Covid-19 Risk Assessment for Religious Services

The Purpose of the Covid-19 Risk Assessment is to provide a common framework for congregational and service leaders to make risk informed decisions about Public Safety and the operations of their worship gatherings.

Since there are no vaccines or treatments for COVID-19, non-pharmaceutical interventions become the most important response strategy. These are community interventions that can help reduce the impact of disease and prevent another shut-down.

I work with local governments as a ‘Local Public Health Partner.’ This arms-length relationship allows me to talk more candidly with service organizers and planners. Yet, also allows for the community leaders to help their community present a more unified approach to Covid-19 mitigations for their residents.

Using a Religious Services Risk Assessment Tool designed by the World Health Organization and supplemented with the State of Illinois’ “Restore Illinois” Guidance, I will conduct interviews with service organizers. During our discussions, we will review health and safety concepts, I will provide directions to find information and a Risk Value will be given.
